Professional doesn’t have to mean ‘Corporate’

Do you find marketing a struggle? You want to come across as professional and credible, but you also don’t want to lose what makes your brand unique and personal.

Personality and approachability has become important in many businesses, but this is especially true for service-based business owners like coaches, therapists, and wellness professionals – trust is everything. Clients need to feel confident that you know what you’re doing, but they also want to connect with you as a person.

So, how do you show up professionally while keeping that personal, heartfelt touch?

Being “professional” doesn’t necessarily mean being serious, formal, or a bit stiff! Professionalism is actually about being clear, consistent, and reassuring.

Showing up as your true self, so they can see you’re real and someone they’ll feel comfortable working with, whilst maintaining that you’re experienced and know your stuff, is so valuable to your client.

Show up consistently, in a way that feels right for you

Trust is built over time, and consistency plays a huge role in that, this is not just about being consistent with timings and platforms (though this is great for algorythms!) – but it’s also about being consistent with the actual content.

That doesn’t mean everything has to look the same all the time, but having some consistency helps people recognise and remember you.

  • Stick to a colour scheme and style that feels you.
  • Use a tone of voice that fits your personality,
  • Use professional imagery that is in keeping with your brand, aligning with your values and personality..
  • If the thought of consistent marketing feels overwhelming, try to find ways to show up that work for you and suit your personality:

Hate social media? Try blogging, email newsletters, or networking.
Love talking but hate writing? Focus on video content or guest podcasting.

The key is to market yourself in a way that you’re comfortable with because showing up regularly in a way that feels natural is more likely to build trust.

A consistent, but natural brand makes people feel safe, comfortable, and excited to work with you.

Share more than just your service

People are drawn to businesses that help and inspire them, not just sell to them. So, don’t just promote your services, focus on sharing value.

That could mean:

  • Posting helpful tips your audience will genuinely appreciate.
  • Sharing insights from your own journey.
  • Offering behind-the-scenes glimpses of how you work.

By doing this, you’re naturally building trust. And when someone does need your service, you’ll already be on their radar as the person to go to.

Let happy clients do the talking

A great way to show you’re both professional and trustworthy?  – Let your clients’ words speak for you.
Share testimonials and kind words from clients, post stories about how you’ve helped people.
Hearing from real people reassures potential clients that you’re exactly what they’re looking for.

Showing your face online!

A big part of building trust is by showing your face and being authentic.

It’s easy to think that a quick phone snap or selfie is “good enough.” And while you may think that casual behind the scenes photos will capture your personality, it can also give a sense of being unprofessional and not taking your business seriously.

And while behind-the-scenes photos and videos can be great, relying on them too much – even if you’re incredibly professional and capable.

Investing in professional images can completely change how your business is perceived. It:

  • Shows credibility – High-quality, images immediately make you look like someone who takes their business seriously (they are also favoured by algorithyms and improve your SEO!)
  • Builds connections – We’ve all heard the saying a picture speaks a thousand words – it’s true! By showing yourself authentically and consistently, your audience will feel that they already know you.
  • Gets more engagement – Professional photos catch the eye, increasing the likelihood that people will stop scrolling and engage with your content.

Why Personal Brand photography is the right kind of photography for service based business owners:

Your brand isn’t just about what you offer – it’s about who you are. You need to tell your story, and show your authentic self in a relatable way.

A good Personal brand photographer will work with you to make sure your photos show your personality in a professional way. They will provide an in depth planning & preparation guide to the shoot. Working with you on location ideas, outfits and props. They will make sure they are capturing the style of photos that you are after, and ones that tell your brand story.

You will receive a bank on consistent images that you can use across your marketing, that builds that connection with your ideal clients.

And when you have a collection of brand photos, that you love, just natural, warm images that show you as the friendly, capable expert you are, you’ll actually want to use them (which makes marketing so much easier!).
