You know when everything starts to feel a bit lighter?
The days are longer, the flowers are blooming, the sun’s out (well occasionally… we are in the UK after all!!), and there’s just a bit more energy and happiness in the air.
That’s exactly what Spring and Summer brand photography should reflect.
After the cosy visuals of autumn and winter, now’s the time to bring in brightness and freshness into your brand’s look (obviously while still keeping everything feeling like you!)
Like I mentioned in my Autumn/Winter blog, having images that match the current season helps your brand feel relevant, active, and in tune with your audience, and can massively help with seasonal marketing offers (you wouldn’t want to be using a cosy winter image to advertise a ‘Spring Sale’ would you!)
So let’s look at how you can bring Spring and Summer styling into your brand photography:
🌼 Spring photography: Fresh, soft & light
Spring is all about new beginnings. It’s the perfect time to refresh your imagery, introduce new offers, or show a slightly lighter side of your brand.
COLOURS:
- Soft pastels: pink, light blue, lavender, light green
- Fresh neutrals: creams, light greys, soft beige
- Your brand colours – softened slightly to fit the season
OUTFIT IDEAS:
- Lighter layers (think floaty tops, shirts, light knits)
- Soft fabrics
- Trainers, flats or lighter footwear
- Subtle patterns (florals can work beautifully if they suit your brand)
PROPS & SETTINGS:
- Fresh flowers (real or styled)
- Notebooks, planners, or “new ideas” visuals
- Outdoor cafés, gardens, blossom trees
- Light, airy indoor spaces with lots of natural light
- Refreshing cold drinks, or fruity herbal teas
PHOTO IDEAS:
-
- You planning, brainstorming, or mapping out ideas
- Outdoor shots, amongst spring flowers or blossom
- Flat lays with fresh, clean styling, and spring related additions
- Easter type props (pastel eggs, chicks, bunnies, etc)
☀️ Summer: Bright, confident & full of energy
Summer is where your brand can really shine. It’s ideal for showing confidence, and personality – and for adding a variety of indoor and outdoor images to your brand.
COLOURS:
- Brighter tones: coral, turquoise, sunny yellow
- Crisp whites and light neutrals
- Possible bold versions of your brand colours
OUTFIT IDEAS:
- Short sleeves, shorts/skirts/dresses, cropped trousers, lightweight fabrics
- Light layers (denim jackets, overshirts, thin cardigans)
- Sunglasses or simple accessories
- Flats or sandals
PROPS & SETTINGS:
- Iced coffee, cold drinks, fruits
- Sunglasses, flowers
- Outdoor work setups (laptop at a café or garden table)
- Picnic-style setups, benches or relaxed seating
- Open spaces – fields, parks, lakes
PHOTO IDEAS:
- Golden hour shoots
- Laughing, chatting, more expressive moments
- You ‘in action’ working shots
- Wider shots that show environment with sunlight from windows/open doors
Spring & Summer photo locations around Swindon & Wiltshire
These locations are perfect for bringing that light, seasonal feel into your images while still keeping things local and relatable.
Blending Seasons with Your Brand Colours
Just like in autumn and winter, your brand colours still matter.
Spring and summer images doesn’t mean abandoning your brand palette, but maybe adapt it to fit/compliment colours of the season.
- Use lighter or brighter versions of your colours
- Bring them in through outfits, props or accessories
For example, if your core brand colour is blue, you might use a blue notebook or blue clothing accessories against a spring/summer nature backdrop.
Keep your overall look consistent, just seasonally refreshed. That way your images feel current and recognisable.
The importance of planning
Spring and summer always seem to arrive quickly – and suddenly everyone’s scrambling for fresh content, or trying to book in a photoshoot for the only few days that week when the weather is good!
So it’s best to plan ahead to make sure you have things in place ready for a shoot to work around the Great British weather or things like short lived blossom.
Remember though photographer’s diaries can’t always accommodate you quickly or ‘on that upcoming dry day’. So it’s best to reach out to a photographer early and try to have optional dates in for the shoot (as long as the photographer is happy to be flexible too!)
A little planning goes a long way:
- Think about what you might be promoting in these seasons
- Create a simple shot list
- Gather outfits, props and source locations in advance
You may not need loads of new images – just enough to keep your content feeling relevant and up to date.
And don’t forget Bluebell Season 🪻 (April–May)
This is such a missed opportunity for so many businesses.
For just a few weeks each year, usually from late April into May, some woodlands are covered in carpets of bluebells. This creates a beautiful, soft, natural backdrop…. perfect for:
- Calm, reflective content
- Storytelling imagery
- Connection-led, lifestyle-style photos
Here are some Wiltshire & Swindon locations that are great for bluebells:
- West Woods, near Marlborough
- Clanger Wood, near Trowbridge
- Grovely Wood, near Salisbury
- Hagbourne Copse, Swindon
- Bentley Wood, near Winterslow
- Drews Pond Wood, near Devizes
- Erlestoke Park Wood (between West Lavington and Edington)
- Tinney’s Firs, near Salisbury
- Ravensroost Wood, near Malmesbury
- Badbury Hill, Coleshill
Photo ideas:
- Walking through woodland paths (natural, relaxed movement)
- Soft, thoughtful portraits surrounded by blue tones
- Close-up lifestyle details with flowers in the background
Top tip:
Bluebells don’t last long – so this is definitely one to plan ahead for!
Bringing it all together
The key with all of this isn’t to completely reinvent your brand every few months – it’s about small seasonal shifts.
A change in location, props, colours or clothing can be enough to make your content feel current and intentional.
When your imagery feels aligned with what your audience is experiencing in real life…
…that’s when they really start to connect.
