If you’ve ever stood in front of a camera and thought, “Where do I even put my hands?”, “What’s the most flattering way to pose for pictures?”, “How do I look slimmer?” or simply “How do I not look awkward??!” you’re not alone.

Recently, I’ve been sharing short videos with easy tips on social media to help people feel more confident in photos – from tips to taking selfies to finding flattering angles with simple, natural poses you can use anywhere.

The feedback has been lovely (thank you to everyone who’s commented or messaged!)

And from now on you’ll be able to find all my tips in one handy place on my YouTube channel, so whenever you’re feeling awkward in front of the camera, you can dip in for a quick confidence boost.

Here’s a few written tips to help too

1. RELAX YOUR SHOULDERS (AND DROP YOUR CHIN!)
Many of us hunch up when we’re tense or asked to smile. We lift our heads and shoulders up and stick our chin out. (whether you’re trying to hide a double chin or not – this is not a flattering pose!) Instead, take a deep breath and drop your shoulders, and slightly bring your chin in, you’ll instantly look more relaxed.

2. ANGLE IT
Don’t stand straight on – turn your head, shift your weight (try putting one leg in front of the other), or drop your shoulders. These tiny adjustments stop you looking stiff and help you find your best angle.

3. THE DREADED ‘WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANDS?’!
Hands can feel like the most awkward thing in the world during photos. Shake them out before posing, so they are not clenched or tight. Or try gently holding an item (like your glasses, mug, or play with your hair) or lightly rest your hands (or thumbs) in a pocket. These make your pose look more natural.

4. SELFIE TIME
For selfies, try holding your phone just above eye level and tilting it slightly down. It’s flattering for most people and helps avoid the dreaded under-chin shadow.

5. THINK ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND
Even the best photo can be ruined by a messy or distracting background. A plain wall, leafy garden, or softly lit window can make all the difference.

Why do I share these tips?

Photography isn’t just about taking a picture – it’s about how you feel when you see yourself in that picture. I love giving confidence to my clients when I take their photo.

I know a lot of people don’t like having their photo taken!! So my aim is to help you feel more comfortable, confident, and like yourself in every shot, whether it’s for your business, social media, or just everyday snaps.

If you’ve ever dreaded having your photo taken, I promise you, with a few small tweaks, it can make such a difference! So go check out the videos and see what a difference it can make!
